Default 16 ga VHE Question

Found a 16ga VHE in a shop yesterday priced around 2200.00, which after checking the internet seems low. I didn't have the foresight to note the serial number but I can go back today.

What I'm wondering is, what are the critical things to look for to make sure it's an unaltered gun. The wood is decent with appropriate age and and wear and the screws look untouched. Barrels look good, no dings, not much case color on receiver. The biggest disappointment is that the stock has been cut and a pad added. It felt slightly short on the LOP, it may be 13 3/4" to 14". Would this zap the value.

So as far as value other 16ga VHE guns seem to be priced between 3k and 4k, does this one seem undervalued?

Thanks for your consideration - FC
