In the late 70s I worked for the Navajo Nation and lived about 100 yards from the San Juan, in those days rarely did I see another fly fisherman. We had a local fly fisherman who lived in Farmington and wrote articles about fly fishing New Mexico and southern Colorado and he also said the best fly fishing in New Mexico was the Red River down in the gorge. Problem was getting there.
