Bill, is it a G&H Springfield? Walter Eiserer did some great ones while working there. Many more people seem to prefer their Mauser auctioned guns, but I always seem to go against the flow.
I have a .22 Hornet on an '03 receiver that Walter made, in the classic G&H stock, but not marked as such, as he built it after leaving there.
RG Owen was another who thought highly of G&H mounts and since he was head of Winchesters custom dept. for many years, it just makes sense a M70 should have one.
