I am familiar with the Basenji as I have a friend that always has one. They are a beautiful little dog and they always look like they are on "full" alert.

Jim, How about some pics of your pup(s). I had heard of the breed but knew nothing and your post got me looking. First stop, Wikipedia. There was a pic, posted below, and a mention that the breed was brought to England in the 18th century by some Brits in the wine business and, probably, a basis for the English Pointer. My old EP, a couple of years gone now, was a throw back to the EPs of a century ago; large boned, well sprung ribs, block headed, held his tail horizonally on point. Pretty much as described for the PP; a couple of pics below, see what you think.

Fred,
Beautiful old pointer. He just looks like a bird finding machine. May he RIP. Daryl |

Thanks for the reply. As you saw from the PP website, they all look very much alike. Maggie Sue looks like a younger version of the one you posted. As you read on the website, they are officially a rare breed as I was told that there are probably fewer than 500 in the Northern Hemisphere. Mine has never been trained on birds; however she will come to a rock steady point if she sees or smells a bird on the ground. I am going to take her to south Georgia this winter to put her on some quail and have fun watching her.
