Default 16 ga. and Green Dot

Thought I would share this recipe, it was tested by Precision Reloading. I have a good supply of Green Dot that I need to start using. It may or may not mean anything but this Green Dot has the black cap.

2.5 inch Ceddite hulls 16ga. once fired
TUWG2116 Wad
Cheddite 209 primer
1oz. 7.5 shot
16gr. Green Dot
6 point crimp
Average Velocity 1197 fps
Average Pressure 8285 psi

I backed down to 7/8oz. shot and 15.6gr. powder and it is mild recoil and breaks clay targets with gusto.

This info is for educational purposes, do with it as you will. I have been using this recipe in a modern shotgun because I don't always shoot a Parker.

Thanks Matt, will have to give that a try, I have all those components, including a couple pounds of Green Dot. Hope all is good with you!

Yep, black cap.

There was testing done over on 16ga.com with GreenDot. Some time back, Alliant introduced a new "cleaner burning" version of Green Dot that was packaged with a "green" cap as opposed to the prior "black" cap packaging and older formulation.

The testing was done comparing the older version of Green Dot and the new "cleaner burning" Green Dot powder. The pressures recorded showed the new Green Dot powder produced higher pressures for like recipes. Further info can be obtained over on 16ga.com.

I mentioned that my loads were tested with the older black cap version of Green Dot in case there is a pressure difference. I thought it was prudent to provide the caveat.
