Just pull the forend iron and look for the serial no. stamped into the wood under the iron at the knuckle.

Jim I should probably take a look but I was never really that concerned with how or why it got this way. I bought the gun for a very reasonable price and I can guarantee you this fall when my grandson learns to shoot two triggers he will not care at all about the forend checkering.
