VHE 20

After reviewing 20 some pages in this forum, one opinion stuck with me. I believe it was John Campbell who said that "some guns are worth preserving, but not restoring." Such would be the case of this little VHE 20 #179466.
The original 28" barrels are now 26 1/2" and measure cyl/cyl. It is in rough, but not terrible shape, and is shootable. The ejectors are as strong as the day it left the factory, and has shootable dimensions for me--LOP 14" and 2 3/4 DAH, 6 lbs 1 oz. The frame was extremely dark, but did not appear to be blued, the barrel bluing is scanty, and the bores a little rough. I had the stock pulled off the frame and had a couple little cracks acraglassed to prevent any further problems.
In the last picture, I used a scotchbrite pad and Hoppes to clean up the frame. It still could use a little more elbow grease, but now is a nice silver.
At some time, I will probably have the stock refinished/recheckered and the barrels reblued. For the time being, I will shoot as is.
What would you do?

Looks like you have done well with it. Looks like a great little upland gun

I would retrace the checkering and use it as is, looks like a great shooter/field gun, possibly do a total upgrade later, but probably not.

Looks great Harold, and I agree with Forrest, re-cut the checkering and you would be good to go

I like the little gun. I wouldn't touch it. Just shoot and enjoy it.

i too would just leave it alone and hunt and enjoy the little gun.more than likely it will become your favorite go to gun.. charlie

Harold, look in the General Parker Discussions, "Gunner's Parker", Rich Anderson's gun. That gun looked just like your 20 when I sold it to Rich, except that it had a repaired crack at the wrist.
