God knows you need some more fly rods Rich! That plane of yours is already loaded down with all those heavy shotguns. Missed you in Grand Rapids last week, lots of woodcock, so-so on the Grouse.

You're right, I do! I do!! Screwed up and didn't get a 10ft 3wt last spring... that would have been good for big water. I haven't been to the GR gathering in a couple of years now. A bit rich for my bank account.... My friend Trigg was there but I haven't heard his report yet. We kicked butt on woodcock last time I was there but only got a few grouse. I shot my 1-frame damascus GHE12 which was deadly on those woodcock.

Although these photos have been shown before, here they are again in response to Dave's post.
The Parker-Hawes and the Hawes rods are rarely found. The rod action is highly regarded even today among bamboo rod enthusiasts. Last I heard for prices of ones in good to excellent condition at auction, they were upwards of $2000 and comparable with high end Leonards, Howells and Carmichaels. I don't know if they would reach the level of some Gary Howells, presently at $3500 to $4000, a Carmichael, about the same, or a Payne, some up to $7000 to $8000. This is mine, a 9', 5 to 6wt rod at a little over 4 ounces. If one is found needing work, there are excellent rod restorers. |
