9-11-2010 God Bless America
Today was a great day. I was in a dove field all day with a good friend and hunting companion of several years and I missed all the political announcements, blah, blah, blah. What I will do before I crash tonight is to have a drink and toast all the men and women who serve in harms way to protect our rights to hunt and fish and live in a free country. I only hope my children and grand children have many of the same freedoms we have enjoyed. Please take a moment to thank those who serve us and I hope your 2010 hunting season is a good and safe one.
John

Today I reflected on that Tuesday morning not so long ago that changed everything for so many Americans and for so many people in most of the free world.
It was and is the most profound thing I have ever experienced.
Some of you may remember that Sunday morning when Pearl Harbor was attacked from the sky... I am too young to remember that day. I was born years later. But both of those attacks changed everything in their own times. Nothing will ever be the same. A certain Innocence was stolen from our America and we'll never have it again and our children and grandchildren will grow up under the lost innocence that was created by those acts of horrific aggression.
I don't know what to do or to say that will make my children and grandchildren feel secure now. I guess they will get used to it like we got used to growing up under the nuclear threat in the years of the "cold war" after WWII.
My heart and prayers go out to those who lost a loved one on September 11, 2001 and also to those who feel the very palpable loss of innocence that was perpetuated by that senseless act of terrorism.
May God bless us all.
