B & P Spreader Wads from Precision Relaoding

Has anyone used these wads? I'm interested in trying them in a 1 oz load (they are advertised for 1 1/16 to 1 3/8 oz). I load on a PW 900 and suspect that the post-type spreader discs will be hard to use in high volume loading

John I have used them. I bought a bag years ago and still have some left. They work fine but I found them rather tedious to load even on a single stage MEC. In order to keep the drop tube from crushing the wad I would start by placing a tongue depressor between the tube and wad. I believe you can install a steel shot drop tube and avoid this problem but i never did it.

After that experiment I went to the X-stream inserts for spreader loads. They simply drop into the shot cup and then you add shot. It's still a slow loading process but I found it easier to do. I can also use the X-stream insert in either 12ga or 10ga. On the pattern board they opened the pattern of 1 1/8 ounce of lead 6 from 92+% to 57% in my Remington 1894 10ga.

Pete - Thanks. Where did you get the X Stream wads? Why don't they have the same crushing problem?

John I bought the X-Stream inserts from Ballistic Products (link below). When I use them I seat the wad in normal fashion, I then take the shell out of the loader and drop the X-Stream into the shot cup. Then I put the shell back in the loader and bring the drop tube down until it touches the top of the X-Stream and drop the shot. The X-Stream is never crushed by the pressure of seating the wad.

I've used BP spreader wads for a 100 bird clay shoot this week.I use them in a Franchise 3003 trap gun full and super full. I use trap shells for clays over 30 yards 9 felt wads for a bit closer shots .And spreader cartridges for close clays .On the last stand only had skeet 9 left crossing clays at 40 plus yards .Got some impressive kills.

I loaded spreaders on a pw 375 insert wad in place and push it down with little finger works ok.

Pete - That would never work on my press. Would take a week to load 100 shells for a round of clays on my PW 900. Starting to think it may be easier to learn to shoot the full choke gun better

John I have several full choke guns I use on the clays course no spreaders used. I think in the long run the tighter chokes improve ones shooting as it's a hit or a miss, not much chipping.
I just got a very tight choked pigeon gun and will try some 3/4oz loads of #8's at the trap range Saturday weather permitting.

Well a used MEC 600JR in 12ga is not that expensive and you could use it to load your spreaders.
