Default another chambering question

the chambers on this gun have the abrupt rim

if I slide a tape measure down to that "lip" I get 2 3/4 inches

however- according to the letter (excerpt below) the order specified 3"
(barrels are numbered to the gun)

am I measuring wrong? Or do I chalk it up to a book error?

Parker shotgun, serial number 70168, was ordered by the E.T. Allen Co. of San Francisco CA on February 13, 1894 and shipped on October 5, 1894. According to Parker Bros. Order Book No. 36, it was a PH hammerless, 12-gauge. It featured Twist steel barrels with a length of 30 inches and 3” chambers.

The price was $65.00.

According to Parker Bros. Stock Book No. 25, the stock configuration was a capped pistol grip and its specifications were: Length of Pull: 14 ¼”, Drop at Heel: 3”, Weight: 8 pounds and6ounces. The chokes were patterned RH 170 pellets and LH 170 pellets of size 8 shot in a 24” circle at 45 yards.

[QUOTE=Rick Losey;170295]the chambers on this gun have the abrupt rim

If it was chambered for one-piece metallic cartridges with the chamber cut for the length of the cartridge with no cone at all.... I'd guess there is an error in the book. Suggest you ask our research chairman to go over it again to determine if a mistake was made in the research letter or if in fact the letter is accurate according to the information available.
