Default Parker SBT C Grade

Word got out over at the gun club that I like Parkers. A member has a C Grade SBT with a later replacement recoil pad. Doesn't look like the stock has been cut but unsure. Kooks nice. What should I look for and price range? These are new to me.

Use the completed auction search feature on the Morphy or Julia site. That's where the information is. Don't sweat the pad. Repro Silver, Hawkins and Jostam are available as well as original Silver.

Condition and originality determine price... unless it's one of the 5 twenty-gauge SBT's made by Parker.

Get good pictures and post them here. You’ll get a fair estimation of the value.

No, definitely not a 20 gauge. Pointless to post photographs at this point as the asking price is about 3 times of comparable ones I found on auction sites such as Morphy's and their predecessor James Julia's. The ones I found as sold were, if anything, in better condition, and this was when sales prices were stronger.

It amazes me how cheaply one can purchase a SBT C Grade Parker even these days. If one purchases a decent one at auction, I suppose. They required much craftsmanship, so not sure why they sell so cheaply at auction, other than a side by side Parker is just more iconic.

Around here, I'm getting the impression that the attitude is "it's a Parker", and so it MUST be a high dollar gun. Maybe it's something in the water...

Exactly. His asking price and a realistic selling point are so far off that anything I might offer might seem like nothing less than an insult.

Why are these fine examples of craftsmanship available relatively so cheaply?

Lack of demand. But don’t speak too loudly. Don’t want the word to get around about what a bargain they are.

I would love a Parker SBT. Problem is whenever they are affordable and available I'm not in the market for one. For as seldom as I'd shoot a SBT I'm not going to spend a lot on one.
