Mississippi opener better than I figured it would be. My son was home and we were invited to a small shoot. First dove shoot for him in 16 years and he killed 15 with my RBL 20 which is now his. I picked up 14 lost a couple and shot 37 times not great but it is what it is. Very enjoyable to do what you love with your son. Don't know who enjoyed it the most Babydog Boykin, Daniel or Dad.

Daniel, I struggled to get my 15 birds too. I was well into my second box of shells before leaving the field. Some of the flurries nearly screwed me into the ground trying to pick out a bird to shoot or shoot at. I have been in horrible back pain. The shot the doctors gave in my back did nothing. Neither opioids on their own or chased with 4oz of 90 proof relieve the pain. The last bird I dropped was some distance so I headed toward it. I was I’m real pain so I took off for the truck instead. I drove into the field and made the retrieve, picked up my seat and birds, then headed for the hospitality van.

I was a perfect 100% on my first dove hunt (OK, it was one-for-one). I got up too early and to the field too early, so I walked to the back end to avoid people. Three guys set up near me and cut off every bird but one. Next year, I'm sleeping in! I guess that's why they call it hunting.

David Boyles had a good opening day on the Sept 1st opener near Pearsall, TX with his VHE 28 gauge and his “new” D Grade Lifter 12.
Very Nice David! Oops.... I forgot to crop the pictures... There, that’s better .

Dove breast, roast cauliflower, and butternut squash were for dinner. I marinated the dove in a brine of salt, brown sugar, coriander and pepper corns for an hour. Then I let them rest for a half hour before rolling them in butter and olive oil and tossing them in a smoking hot cast iron skillet for about two minutes a side.
