I was at David's shop in Maine and saw some of the progression of this project... he is a craftsman of the highest order. I could not find the splice! My hat's off to him!!
Yesterday when David called me to chat he told me the gun was now back with its owner. I asked David, "So David, what do you think of the job you did on it?" David replied, "Don't ask me, I'm the bloke that did the work and I'm too critical on myself. You're better off askin' the owner what he thinks of it." |

Nice. Looks like the splice line likely matches a checkering valley line.

Yessir ,that's the way its done ...I always try to follow the checkering borders as well ,best way to hide it .
I would give my best left thing ,to have an hour or two with that man ....Uncle so and so down the harbor is good for a yarn, but can't come close with that old pocket knife It'll make a nice gun Bruce ,congrats . |

I recently did this type of repair on a Mauser 98 rifle for a gentleman. Stock was cut way too short and it wouldn't work wth the claw mount scope on it.
There are times when a butt transplant is an excellent option for repair. And done right, the results are excellent. That is a nice one Bruce.
