Thanks Russ, I was just searching to see if anyone back in the day ordered a low grade gun with a little more detail added....A personal touch that made theirs different.

glad I seen this I have a vhe that a famous baseball player owned with barrel wedges like yours on the front and rear of the barrel gold inlayed with a gold dust around the engraving and i wasn't sure if it was factory it also has his name engraved in the trigger guard in gold and a gold cap on the stock with his name engraved in it and a big gold diamond on the bottom of the receiver thanks for the pics

Occasionally you will see low-grade guns (P-, V- and G-grade) with a little more engraving on them. These are invariably what the factory engravers refer to as "Friday afternoon" guns; instead of starting a new gun late in the day, many engravers would linger over the gun on their bench to round out the day's work, which was paid by the hour. Characteristic touches included extra "curleycues" around the screws, bolder termination tails of straight lines and the like.
