I had a Shelly Gitman SBT and sold it. Was glad I had the opportunity to learn a little bit about Mr. Gitman. The new owner, a PGCA member, seems to be enjoying the gun and shooting it often and well. I'd like to think that one day many, many, many years from now, folks will be looking for John Davis SBT's. You'll recognize them by the JND engraved in the ovals. Picked that one up from Mr. Gitman.

SBT
Thanks for the reply’s!
Shelly Gilman was a client of mine back when he and his brother owned Gilman Brothers Shirt Company. I was in the finance business and financed the Company for 10 plus years. He and I talked Parkers many times and he got me on the way to what I have today, but I always wanted one of his SBTs. He was an interesting, successful businessman and a heck of a great Trap Shooter. |

A good friend and shooting buddy. About 3 years ago, I was driving through his home town and there was the shirt factory, still there.

They still make Gilman Bros shirts there and they are still outstanding shirts. One of the few made in the USA. I still have one from the 80s, cuffs and collar frayed but it has some excellent memories attached so it stays in my closet.
Thanks Bill for reminding me of a great guy. |

I wish back when I was shooting and attending events with Shelly, I had begged a shirt. I couldn't afford them then, and I can't afford them now. Oh, well. If I had saved his life or something, he probably would have given me a shirt or two. However, I never saw Shelly as someone who needed someone to save his life. His final years took him by surprise. Kevin McCormack will remember attending an absolutely fabulous shoot one weekend. It was time to shoot the skeet events and Shelly didn't have any skeet loads. We offered to give him some of our trap loads for the event. Shelly declined to participate, saying "You don't shoot skeet with trap loads." End of story.

Gitman Bros Shirt Factory
Well it sounds like I missed a good person by not meeting Shelly Gitman. I'm happy to hear of a company producing shirts here in the USA, much less in my home state of PA.
I will have to look them up, see if I can support them, Stan |
