Any Suggestions ?

I would like to find a nice used 410 SxS to carry in my Ranger on the ranch to help me take back control of the commodity barn from the coons... It would also give me something that my two young granddaughters could start learning to shoot with.

Just wandering from your experience which of the vintage American made guns would be a good one to look for... Lefever, Ithaca, Crescent etc ?

Any leads on one would also be appreciated

if your not stuck on old makers , look at the CZ shotguns. i have handled a few and they seem a bargain for the price

Not sure how good a 410 will be for coons in a barn. Ours are huge and hard to approach.

Buying any of the classics in 410 for a truck gun would be a frightfully expensive proposition, I think. There are tons of eastern european and other doubles in 410 that are cheap and wouldn't suffer much from having the stock cut off, which would be a given with a classic double.

I just did this for my grand kids (8 and 6). I ended up buying a really nice Turkish O/U in 410 that is made for a child, and a Mossberg pump with replaceable spacers and a really spongy thick recoil pad. It is adjustable down to about 11-1/2 inch pull with a short barrel. The O/U is about 12-1/2 inches. Young kids don't do well with womens guns. They are still too long and heavy.

The O/U was about $550 and the Mossberg about $340. I actually like the pump due to length and width, and throw it in the 4 wheeler a lot.

I prefer the older American made guns and just can't get interested in the newer Turkish made guns. I did have an AYA #3 boxlock for many years and really liked it.

The 410 is perfect for me because they are usually on the run when I see them...

Stevens can still be found for a few hundred $.I have a cz that is great and shoot it often.
Saw a sevens the other day for around $400

If you want a vintage gun, a Stevens/Savage/Ranger/etc… or a Nitro Special/Western Arms long range would be the most reliable and serviceable options. Economy offerings like crescents are just not worth taking the chance on unless they are in very good shape.

I am sure you want a double, but what about a single shot? Or even the stevens/savage 24? .410 over .22 cal.
