Roadwork - Northeast SxS
I want to alert those coming to the Northeast SxS via Montrose, Tunkhannock and Wyalusing that there’s a big resurfacing project on Irish Hill Road and significant delays are possible. I was out at Hidden Hollow today to meet some people and stopped/talked with the flaglady who told me the roadwork will continue this week. Here’s a suggested alternate for anyone who doesn’t mind driving on a good dirt road.
FROM LAWTON, drive 3.6 miles on 267N (past the usual left turn onto Irish Hill Road) and look for a white sign for “Pennsy Supply”. Turn left on that dirt road which is “SR 4012” and drive to the end. Turn right and you will be on Irish Hill Road and just a short distance from the right hand turn to Hidden Hollow. Again this alternate is a dirt road and anyone driving his ’55 Chevy with 20 hand rubbed coats of candy apple red lacquer (or similar wheels) may not want to take it. Those who do use the alternate will see what goes on with the Marcellus Shale gas people putting in pipelines adjacent to that road.
I don’t think this road work will affect anyone coming from Vestal NY but I wasn’t on Irish Hill Road north of the turn to Hidden Hollow so I don’t know about that.
EDIT Friday evening - road work was bad on Wednesday and really bad on Thursday. Wonder of wonders, there wasn't any work going on today - at least not when I went through. But I did stop this morning and talked with some gas people getting ready for work. The foreman told me they're just as frustrated as the public. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads-up Frank. The dirt road was a lot better than getting tar all over my truck and sitting in line waiting for paving. Got stuck at the pipeline crossing for a while but it was worth it to see some of the workings of the shale gas industry.
