Default Fox and LC Smith research

Are there books for Fox and LC Smith shoguns like the Parker Gun Id book? The reason I ask, there are one of each for sale locally, I have the serial numbers but haven't seen the guns.

Best source of information for those guns is at their respective collectors websites, but there are folks here who know Elsies and Foxes pretty darn well.

Chris, The only book on Fox Shotguns is"AH FOX" by the late Mike MacIntosh. LC Smith guns on the other hand have several books. "LC SMITH Shotguns" by Brophy,LC Smith Patents and Blueprints also by Brophy(This book is generally pricey) and the fairly new seminole work by the late John Houchins "LC Smith-The Legend Lives" This last volume is the Smith equivalant of our "Parker Story" A fastinating and informative book.

I don't know about L.C. Smith's, but there's no A.H. Fox ID book--there is, however; a look up factory order card service that the Fox Collectors offer. To take advantage of this service you first have to be a member of the AHFCA ($30 annual fee) and then you can request a factory order card (the 1st look up per year is free, after that it's $25 per gun) for graded guns above serial # 10,000. No factory order cards are available for graded guns under SN 10,000, nor are factory order cards available for Sterlingworths. This service usually has just a few hours turnaround time for a copy of the factory order card to be e-mailed to you.

Factory letters are available on both Fox graded guns and Sterlingworths through the Fox historian, John Callahan, this service generally has about a 4-6 week turnaround.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to try to get a peek at them, there are some Parkers too. I'm thinking this is all field grade stuff, but if it's nice and the price is right I'll pick them up and make sure they get into the hands of those in need. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,
Chris

Low number Fox information is not generally available for the same reason that some Parker information is not available. The records are not available for research or do not exist. Many old records have been destroyed.
