Default Shooting gun with 2 5/8” Chambers

I have an early Trojan, serial number 164856 which has 2 5/8” chambers. Can anyone comment on the safety and advisability of shooting this gun with new, plastic, 2 3/4” shells?

Shoot it with confidence John!!!

It will love 2 3/4" shells and it'll be quite comfortable for both you and your Trojan!!

I cut my Parker teeth in 1961 on a 12 ga. Trojan 167347 with off the shelf 2 3/4" ammo... whatever the hardware store had in stock at the time. I'm quite sure the chambers must have been the same length as yours but at 13 years old, I never thought to check... heck, such a thought never even crossed my mind. I shot that Trojan for 4 or 5 years when the owner moved to Boise and wanted the gun back.

I wrote a story about my experience with that gun titled "The Last Trojan Pheasant" for Parker Pages back in ..... Issue and year being investigated...

I agree with Dean. I will add that I wouldn't shoot heavy game loads only because you have no idea what condition the head of the stock is in. The metal will be no problem, it's the wood that we have to watch out for. Have fun with that Trojan!

2 5/8" Chambers are intended to digest 2 3/4" ammo. Parker wanted the mouth of the shell to open in the forcing cone for a better gas seal.

Being fluid steel, shoot 2-3/4”. It will be fine. Just as intended as a matter of fact.

If it were damascus, I would usually recommend trying to shoot 2-1/2”
