I played the silly game on the Hodgdon website and got a whole raft of loads in the 1225 to 1300 fps range. I had selected Longshot, Remington hulls and W209 primers what many of us may select. The pressures, as you may suspect, were in the stratosphere. Where are the standard skeet loads in the 1175 to 1200 fps range?

I saw quite a few loads in the 1200 FPS range for Longshot and 3/4 oz of shot. I plugged in Cheddite and Winchester primers with Fiocchi and Winchester hulls.

Bill, if you use Cheddite primers instead of Remington, 4 out of 6 loads they show for 3/4 oz and Longshot with Remington target hulls are 1200 FPS

Yep, 1200fps and moderate pressures for a 28. Plenty of options.

Here's the one off the Hodgdon site that I've been using and found more than adequate for my needs.

2 3/4" Winchester compression formed hulls "Either old style or HS hulls" Just use the specific wad for the HS hulls. The older CF hulls use a different WAA wad, but the loading is the same.

Win 209 primer, WAA28HS wad, 14.6 grs-longshot, 9800 PSI, 1200FPS

IMO: 9800psi in 28ga is a pretty low-pressure load! Overall, I like the load, and it does everything I was expecting of it. It is a tad on the dirty side but that's par for the course in these times of having to find loads for the powders that are currently available.

Disclaimer: This isn't my recipe; it's a published load taken off of the Hodgdon powder web site.

Thanks for suggesting that I look a bit deeper into the charts. I have plenty of Cheddite primers and a stash of Unique. But I also have a lifetime supply of 28s loaded.
