For the person looking for a 14ga, this might be an interesting gun. It's being sold by my friend Mike Jensen and we were talking about it the other day. With Mike, you get an accurate description.

Default 14 ga parker

Serial number for this 14 gauge not being listed in the Parker serial number book or in the back of the Parker Story under 14 gauge will slow the sale I think. Not to mention that you can't hunt with it. PGCA says this serial number will letter, but to what??

Mike says it mics out to 14ga bore dimensions. Mike is or has contacted Mark to make sure because the website says there are factory records. He has had bored out 16's before and says this is distinguishable from them. The SN is in the correct range for 14ga guns.

As for shooting the gun, no, you can't go buy factory shells, but I understand that some have brass shells made and reload them. I don't know anything more about it than that. I do know that some collectors want guns in all gauges, and for such a person, if this gun checks out, it might be something they are interested in. We had an all gauge exhibit with Pheasants Forever maybe a couple years ago and had an 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 20, 28 and 410 that we had borrowed and pulled together. We only had a 24 ga lacking. I think its a novelty ga but some folks, that's just what they are looking for.

As for missing records, I think any Parker collector has read the cautions in the Serialization Book that large blocks of SN's are missing, and since the same records were used for both TPS and the SN book, its understandable that they are only tools that can be used. And then we have all seen wrong records in the books for guns that were as right as rain. So, we'll see how this one letters, at least there is that record here. As an aside, I have a rare and unusual gun with anomolies for its age, and several have looked at it and believe its original. No record of the gun in any of the books or the PGCA records.

I think a research letter would go a long way to putting a potential buyer at ease and would probably help Mike in getting a decent amount for the gun.

If the seller "Talked to Mark", I would assume that he ordered a letter. However, I doubt that we are going to get together on this fellow's price. Oh, that's right, there is no price. It sure is a nice gun once you get past the screws.

Default 14 ga bore

Best to check the chamber, not the bore, to verify 14 ga.

Best, Austin

I've been watching this gun for some time now. It's gone at least two rounds with no-bids being advertized as a 1 1/2 frame 16ga & a no-reserve starting bid of $3500.00

Then all of a sudden it re-appears as a 14ga rather than the 16ga it originally was posted as.

My question is: Which is it a 14ga or a 16ga?

If it's a 14ga I'll be kicking myself for not bidding the minimum opener on the first go around when it could have been bought for $3500.00
