Default I believe Rutledge would have called this a Chimera

Went out to check my game camera for the Quail/predator study we are doing and I was walking up to the tree I had one of the camera's mounted on this was draped around the trunk of the tree and my camera was laying on the ground between the roots beneath it.

As I carefully got closer I saw the skin continued down into the roots and out the other side:

I typically leave snakes alone as long as they aren't near people, especially rattlers, they are great vermin control and tend to warn you of their presence. Copperheads and water moccasins/cottonmouths I am not quite as forgiving of.

Anyway made sure he wasn't around, used a long stick to retrieve my camera from between the roots, and made my way out of there. I guess I should appreciate him letting me know he was around.
