I don't think Rich will mind if I show his wonderful Gunners gun, along with my Matties gun to show what I think are two of the most beautiful pieces of wood I have seen in a long time! gary

That's right Dean. The first one is a restock of a Fox up graded to XE 16, the third is the custom 275 Rigby, fourth is an up graded AAHE 28 and the last is a custom Ruger #1 7MM-08.

Thanks for sharing! Its these pictures right here that make me want to freshen up a dark but original finish parker stock so that you can see the grain again and not just a dark dirty stock that has original finish.

Bill here are a couple before and after photos of a GHE 20 that I freshened up the wood. Scrape off a 100 years of dirt and crud and you might be surprised at what you find.

I had seen that post before and thank you again for showing it. So you don't have an issue with cleaning up a dark dirty stock to see the grain again even if it means removing "original" finish?

I've had this gun for several years and the finish was sticky and it was just cruddy looking so I had it tuned up some. I like it better now and I don't think it hurts the value. I showed it to the person I bought it from and he couldn't believe it and said he buy it back at a handsome profit. Needless to say I wasn't interested as a Damascus barreled 20 isn't that easy to come by.

But I certainly wouldn't do it to a gun that exhibited at least 70% or 80% of its original condition.

I wouldn't either but this one IMHO needed and benefitted from some TLC. You could scrape the finish off with a fingernail
