Default Hosford Gauges

Last UP shoot I sat in on a demonstration by Jon Hosford, Grand Rapids, MI, about his new barrel wall thickness gauge. The Hosford instrument handles anything from 4 to .410. I called Jon to discuss cost and time and learned that he has in prototype a new barrel ID gauge, which he hopes to demonstrate at this years UP shoot. The wall thickness set and the all ga bore diameter set will be in a wooden box together and have a price of about $1400. Interesting, and knowing these measurements would be important to anybody considering buying an old shotgun. Jon explained to me a number of reasons why he believes his new bore ga is superior to anything now on the market.

Correction, Ann Arbor, MI, its Bachelder in Grand Rapids

Jon is one great guy. His products are all he claims they are. I hope he shows up at the Northeast Shoot. I met him at the Vintagers and was unable to connect with him at the Southern because he was so busy demonstrating his tools.

Jon is in fact a great guy and a good friend of mine. The tools he makes are not toys but serious tools made for using. I carry Jon's tools on my website with a couple youtube instructional video's should you not be familar with his wares .... check the links page for my site.

Bruce I have one of Jon's gauges and they are great tools and he is a great guy you can call him with any questions and he is happy to try and answer them. But I think you have the price wrong on the gauge I don't think it is $1400 I think you added one digit too many let's not scare people off.....

The new all size bore and chamber gauge is expected to be around $800 and the existing all bore wall thickness ga around $535, so price is expected to be for the combined wood cased set about $1400. I asked again to make sure I heard right. Maybe there is a military discount for the poor serviceman.....

I sat in on his demonstration to you ( Eric) last June and was impressed by the accuracy and foolproofness of the wall thickness instrument. With the cost alone of the bore gauge, I would need to be convinced that it was significantly better than the many lesser cost bore gauges, so I look forward to seeing Jon at the Yooper.
