Default Auctions

Having just returned from the Southern S X S and seeing all those great Parkers, I'm wondering where are the best places to look for them. I know James Julia offers some beauties. Are there good auctions that usually show "affordable" Parkers? Where are your favorite hunting grounds?

I heard there were some nice Parkers bought and traded at the Southern so those purchasers are finding them affordable. That and Vintagers/Annual Meeting by Easton MD are good hunting for many. Letting it be known what you are looking for and that you are willing to pay fair price gets the word out and guns come. On the other hand, if a person lets it be known he is looking for a bargain and/or below going prices, he is usually the last to know and complains that he can't find any good guns.

Dean -- Having sold a couple of shooters down there, I was looking hard but in truth couldn't find what I was looking for. My dimensions, a little unusual at 1 1/4 DAC, are the problem. As a lefty, I'd also like a gun with no cast or cast ON. Having paid to have someone unsuccessfully try to bend a stock for me, I'm reluctant to go through that again. I'm hoping to find a 16 or 20 ga "shooter", probably VH or so, with enough original aspects/condition that I enjoy having it and feel proud to take it out shooting with friends. I'm certainly not in the market for high end collector stuff. So far, I've passed on beaver tails and single triggers.

Bruce -- I 've learned that my fellow PGCAers have a very good idea of the value of each Parker and have dealt with me fairly. I'm not looking to make any money -- the joy of owning and shooting a special gun is more than enough for me. I'm quite happy to pay a fair price. As a relative new-comer I've been looking to friends to help me avoid being taken advantage of that's all. I hope to see you all at the Vintagers this year.

Paul: To answer your question, yes there are good auctions that show affordable Parkers. James Julia and his brother-in-law Poulins for one (Poulins usually has the lower priced guns), Rock Island Auctions in Moline, Illinois, Greg Martin Auctions in San Francisco, CA, J.C. Devine, Kull Auctioneers. Ray Low, Brunk Auctions in Asheville, NC., Bonham & Butterfields in CA. to name the best on this side of the pond. Obviously you need to be careful, read the descriptions, call the auction house & ask questions, set a limit on what you are willing to pay & don't go over, post your questions here & get some expert advice. You won't get ever one that you bid on but there a lot of good Parkers coming to sale.

Best Regards, George
