For years I used Hoppes #9 solvent when cleaning the barrel interiors. Then somewhere along the line I was introduced to G96 Gun Treatment and have been using it since. I find it cleans the insides extremely well and makes removal of powder residue much faster than Hoppes.
My question however is this, after I spray the insides of the barrels, I wrap a few strands of a Frontier Pad around the bristle brush and then work the brush in each barrel. The Frontier Pad strands seems to accelerate the powder residue removal faster and after running pads through the barrels, they come out nice and shiny. No indication of any excessive scouring etc. The insides actually look mirror bright. Question is; does using the frontier pads harm the barrels in any way, am I slowly but surely removing metal in this process?
This process seems to work well on my Damascus barrels/
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance
