Storage of Lead Shot

How is the best way to store lead shot?

I have some old bags that have degraded-- some pellets coated with white powder.

Can it be cleaned and used---or should it be disposed? Is it contagious--and if so how can I keep this dreaded lead disease from puking all over the expensive bags of shot I just bought?

It is a result of oxidization. I don't know if that white powder is considered to be lead oxide, but if it is I have read that lead oxide is dangerous. I have handled this stuff since I was a kid and have never suffered any ill effects from it.

You should conduct an in-depth study of just what this stuff is and proceed appropriately.

I have shot that has accumulated that oxidation as well. I just loaded it up and shot it. Rotate your stock pile of shot and you will be fine.

I rotated my shot, but they all seem to have the white stuff on the other side too.
