Along with Hoppe's No. 9, try bronze wool and brass bristled brushes. I use toothbrush-sized brushes available at my local hardware store. Any remaining finish, or real patina, will remain unscathed.

I hope people are removing the stock when attempting to clean the frame with any of these solvents if they hope to retain the original finish.
