About a year ago I bought a SC trap gun that had been nicely converted from original straight grip to full pistol grip and it had a white line pad with the ED ROSE Sporting Goods lettering. The auction was in the Northwestern corner of PA., near the New York line. I have never been able to find any info on Ed Rose. If he did the rework and recheckering on my SC, he was a top shelf craftsman. Fred

Well this pad is less than expertly installed. And the gun has been in the NY (Buffalo) area for a very long time. So it must have been a shop somewhere around western NY/PA.

Mr.Dudley, Ed Rose was indeed a sporting goods store in Buffalo, N.Y. ....I believe if memory serves, it was on Genesee Street near Main St. downtown. I have seen Ed Rose labels on baseball uniforms from the 30's - 50's. That is the extant of my knowledge. I believe I have an ad somewhere in a publication....I assume you have googled it?....

I did do a quick google search and could not really turn up much. I was kind of more looking to confirm location and when they were around. The owner of his gun got it in the 50s I believe and be said that the way it is is the way he got it from his father. So the pad would predate his time of ownership.

I spoke to my father tonight, who spent the first 45 years of his life in Buffalo. If he were a Parker shotgun, his serial number would be around 220XXX.
I asked him if he ever heard of Ed Rose Sporting Goods and without any hesitation he said, "Oh sure, they were over on Main Street. I bought that .222 I have there." It's hard for most people to fathom, but at one time Buffalo was one of the strongest cities in the US.... |
