Default O/T Obituary: Jack Gartside

For those who are fly-fishers - Jack Gartside 66

www.boston.com/bostonglobe/obituaries/

Jack was a "trout bum" before Gierach coined the term and what a nut he was too. I knew Jack and invited him to speak at the New England Saltwater Fly Rodders many years ago.

I tie "Gartside Gurglers" as one of my favorite go-to flies for night fishing on the Au Sable in Michigan

Yup, that was one of Jack's specialties. Those flies work on just about any fish that swims. I have used the big six inchers on stripers around Boston Light, The Graves, the Brewsters, Joppa Flats, Hampton Harbor - just about anywhere stripers are found in my neck of the tides.

Here's the Jack Gartside we knew and loved and, like I stated before, he was a nut!

I knew I had that magazine around here someplace . . . I don't throw any of this stuff away.

I am so sorry to hear about Jack...these 4 inchers of his have been strong medicine for spawning Santee Cooper stripers in our Congaree River for many years. I'll certainly be thinking of him when the run starts in April.
