Default The Rifleman

While watching a rerun this morning of The Rifleman, starring Chuck Connors, I noticed the shotgun which the town Marshal, Micah Torrance was carrying. It happened to be what appeared to be a top lever Parker brothers with barrels cut down to approximately 18 inches. The gun wasn't displayed too prominently but when the bad guy took it from the Marshal and shot it out the window to unload it the gun was definitely a Parker hammer gun. I know this is not earth shattering news but it did my heart good to see the old gun. I wonder where it is now, maybe still in a movie firearms prop storage facility or possibly sold to someone in the public arena.

In the Duval/Costner movie, Open Range, they showed at least two different sawed off hammer guns and I think one was a Parker.

Yeah Richard I think you're right, I'd caught that too in Open Range. There's a lifter style Parker in the movie Hoosiers if memory serves. The drunken father is carrying it when he falls in the snow.

Default Cringing

It makes me cringe to think of the nice old doubles that were cut down
for movies. Lots of Parkers and Greeners I believe.

Watch the Palm Beach Story and what William Demerest is shooting in the club car. All the members of the Ale and Quail Club were packing Leg O Mutton cases and it is hard to see, but in the above mentioned scene it looks like Parker against Fox.
