Default Barrels NOT Touching at Muzzles

A friend and I were just talking about Parker Reproduction barrels and whether they touched at the muzzles or not. I assured him that the only Repro barrels that did not touch were the .410 barrels and that in my experience the other gauges did. Then I went to my gun room to check the only Repro I have remaining, Kathy's 28 gauge Skeet gun.... and Surprise, Surprise - they did NOT touch! there is a gap of something like 3/32" between the barrels.

I wonder if Members can check their Repro's and post their findings here in regards to gauge and width of gap.
If we can reach some kind of consensus that certain gauges had a specific gap in width and that maybe the 12's did not, maybe we can learn something.

My friend has a very late (Ilion) Remington-Parker 28 gauge with uncut barrels but with a gap between the barrels. Do other Members have very late Remington-Parkers with a gap between the barrels at the muzzle?

Knowing that Tom Skuese sent several of his own Remington-Parkers to Kenosha to be copied or duplicated, detail for detail, I wonder if this "gap" may have inadvertently been carried to the Parker Reproductions?

Discussion welcome -
