Default Another non Parker 8 Gauge

I received my W.H. Tisdale underlever 8 gauge today. It has 32.5'' barrels and weighs 12lbs. The proof marks are stamped 9B and 10M. I am assuming bore size and choke. The choke in both barrels measures about .784'' and I have not been able to measure the bore yet as I do not have a bore gauge that goes that large. I will try to post some pictures tonight or tomorrow. Are 9 bore 8 gauges common? I know there are 12 gauges marked 13B

Eldon:
You have a grand gun there. Jones lever, too!

The proof marks are Birmingham black powder. When originally finished, the barrels were 8-bore with 10-bore at the muzzles (10M), and thus choked and "not for ball."

This does not mean the barrels are still that way. A professional measurement is the only way to tell.

I trust you already have a padded shooting jacket...

That's a nice old under leaver Eldon. Hope you have some Win cases laying around. Last i checked they are in short supply right now. I have two bags of the Remington wright now But I hav'nt devised a way to work with the base of the hull. It wont size with my die. I stopped loading black powder in the plastic. You will only get one load and then it will burn through the hull. I have been using blue dot. Enjoy the gun and keep us informed of your progress.

My W&C Scott 10 gauge is like this gun in that it's choked overly tight and marked "not for ball" on the underside of each barrel .

Did Tom Armbroost or however you spell his name . The 4 and 8 gauge guru . Didn't he make up some usable smokeless loads ?

If I can ever afford a Parker/Smith/Lefever 8 gauge you can bet I will try my darned level base to only use smokeless .
