Does the number 3 on the barrel flat designate a return to Remington also it has the numeral 1 above the 3. Is that a date code? The serial number is 195638. Thanks in advance!

On the left barrel flat, tight against the lug is where Remington codes are found. A "3" indicates a repair, but only if it follows the two-letter date code.
