Default If you were to buy a wood gun case....

what would you want? What kind of wood would you like? What kind of "stuff" would you like to carry in it besides the Parker? Would you like to have leather straps and a canvas outer case? Cloeaning gear, shells?

Just wondering, there seems to be a wide variation in the styles of the cases I've seen here, no two seem to be alike.

Now that I'm retired I'm thinking I might see what I can do about putting a couple together. I've built furniture and wood and canvas canoes so thought this might be kinda interesting. Besides, I think my Trogans might like a nice case to ride in on the way to the trap range.

Matt

a search here will show you some of the surviving old cased Parkers, If you go more modern the galazans site or Jeff's outfitters among others will show you some options.

if it were for my gun- i would go dark - maybe walnut - I like nice wood - but I'd give a case to much wear for fancy finishes

Somewhere I posted a photo of a Folsom wooden case that my Parker trap gun was sold with.
Edgar Spencer also posted a picture of a fabulous case he built.

I 've looked at all the cases here that I could find pictures of. I think I know what I "need" to have in the case to take care of what I "think" I should have. But, you know the old saying, "Two heads are better than one", well, most of the time. Just thought there might be some "gotta" have stuff based on your experience that need to consider.

Carl, once I get started, at the very least I'll email you pictures if your still interested. There is no hurry on my part so this might one of those projects that I work on when the mood strikes. I was out in the shop earlier today, think I'll build the first out of Poplar. I have some on hand and I'm sure I'll be doing some modifying as the project progresses. I'll save the good stuff until I know how I want to build it.
