Barrel Check Hook question

Has anyone ever observed the barrel check hook on top action guns breaking off?

I have not seen this, nor heard of it being an issue, but I could see how it could happen with the repeated banging of the hook on the pin.

Awhile back, someone posted photos of a well used 8 gauge top lever that had a repaired check hook. I was surprised to see no visible signs of stress on my new NH with the 8.25 pound barrels.
