Default Question on Barrel Markings

Attached is a picture of the barrels on my DH (1889 SN58509 Damacus Barrels). If understand, the "D" is either the grade of the gun or is that the grade of the Damacus, 4-4 is the barrel weight, but there is a "C" and "3" also marked on them. Does the "3" represent the grading? Can anyone give me any info on what they mean? I'm more & more confused the more I search the diffent posts...

Thanks

The D is for damascus, based on its' location. The 3 is the grade; Ds were number 3. I assume the gun's water table has DH stamped on the left flat. You are correct that the 4 4 is the unstruck barrel weight. The C is unknown to me, but probably an inspector's mark. Please post some more pictures of the whole gun.

I was reading thru some posts, and it said that Remington marked repairs with a "C", could that be a follow on from Parker?

Bill Z is correct in his response to you

Parker never marked their guns with a repair code, only Remington did that. Also I don't believe Remington would do repairs to Damascus barrels, only fluid steel. The list of Remington repair codes is found on the home page.

There are many letters, numbers, symbols on Parker guns we don't know their meaning. Don't get hung up on trying to figure them out. Stick with the ones that are known as shown on our home page and published in books.

Tom, that's interesting!

I was just reading through some correspondence from Remington that John Davis gave me this past weekend. Remington turned down many requests for repairs of Damascus barrels stating it was their policy not to repair them.

I'll scan their form letter and post it. I'll start a new thread.
