Default STOCK BLANKS

Does any body on this forum kn ow where Parker got its wood for stocks etc, did they use the same supplier. I am sure they kept a rather large inventory for production of 2-3000 guns per year. With the different grades wood would seem to have been a lucrative business for some one!

TPS says that the low grade walnut came from various American suppliers. And that King would every few years make a wood buying expedition to Europe for the higher grade blanks. And that he would buy a few years supply at a time.

I do not think it mentions any particular suppliers. And I am sure that the sources changed over the years.

Gary, American Walnut Company in St Joseph, Missouri for Juglans nigra. The company has changed hands but still around and still supplying wood to the trade. Blanks from trees grown in Iowa, northern Missouri, eastern Kansas and Nebraska. The company produces both gunstock blanks and furniture grade lumber. American Walnut kiln dries but I know stock makers here who buy a pallet still green and then they air dry it for a couple years.
