I think 1930's right up to 1950 they were offered in hardware catalogs.Note the "Art Deco" styling.

Thanks Robert it's got a hole in the anvil part did they offer (don't know what they are called) different things to fit in the hole for hammering?

I think they are called a "hardy" and the one I have is sharpened to a chisel point and used to cut metal when you hammer a piece of metal over it.

Is yours a 63 1/2 if so could you show me a picture or some measurements so I could make one because I don't think i'll find one. ch

They have different kinds of hardys that are used for different purposes.Some shape metal some cut it,many possibilities. I looked on ebay and there are a bunch for sale. You just find one that fits your hole in the vise. You can custom fit them and harden them to minimize wear.You would not want to use the vise you have for a lot of heavy pounding as it was not intended for that.

Thanks Robert. I will put my little vise on my realoading bench to clamp guns in just want a hardy to fill the hole mostly.
