Engraving touched up with no case color

Maybe a dumb question, but is it possible to have some engraving on a receiver touched up without the need to have case coloring done?

Just talk it over with your engraver and he/she will do what you want.

In order for a job to be done properly, the frame really should be annealed to dead soft, engraving work done and then re-hardened. Engraving can be recut without annealing, but harder tools would need to be used to effectively cut through the case. You would have to discuss this with your engraver and have them agree to doing it this way.

So the engraving shows great in pictures but in person not so much, other than having it touched up is there anything that can be done to make it more visible?

Ultra sound cleaning can be of a lot of help and might surprise you.

Cleaning is the best thing. There is nothing wrong with the engraving itself.

Kirk, remove the wood from the receiver. Have the receiver ultrasound cleaned and degreased,
then use printers ink to put a background to the engraving. The process is not complicated but I include a link to show the basic process.

Note: some people use Rustoleum in satin black color instead of ink. Same basic process, wipe on, then wipe the engraving with printer paper before the paint dries.
