Default Need Help...Shooting To The Left?

Finally picked up my gun on Friday (DH with 32" tubes and straight stock)and went sporting clays shooting today. Probably should have done some pattern board testing, as my score was below 20. Normally I shoot in the mid to low 40's with other sxs. Must admit the 3" drop and no cast intimidated me, so upon returning home I patterned the gun and noticed on 75% of my shots, mounting with a low gun, patterned 12"-18" left, but centered, especially after taping a 1/2" piece of foam to the top of the stock.

Would this shooting to the left be caused by the lack of cast, or perhaps a bit more pitch than I'm used to? I am 6'4", 300lbs, with long arms. Normally I put on a leather slip on, but needed a a larger size and CSMC are presently backordering them. The lop was still 14 1/2", but normally 15+" is required.

Thanks for any help. Signed, "Embarrassed At The Range In Wisconsin"

Brother; you're a big fella with a big head and somehow need to get your eye moved to the RIGHT so you are looking down the rib ie. bend the stock cast off. Check out http://www.lcsmith.org/faq/POI.html

Or just get a wood rasp and dig a dish on the left side of the comb - NOT

I'm planning on having the stock bent. Just want to make sure it is in the right direction.

Are you a RH or LH shooter?

Has it got the real thick trap style comb on the stock? That will make them shoot off to the side for certain shooters.

I am and shoot right handed, and right eye dominate as well. The comb while a little thicker than my Grulla, doesn't seem large. The gun is 8 1/2lbs on a #2 frame, so the stock is larger than any other 12 gauge stocks I"ve owned.

The extra weight sure makes for an enjoyable sporting clays gun. Don't believe all that "pounding" endured on the English gun was worth it.

You mentioned that you had 1/2 inches of foam on the stock to lessen the drop at the comb...

I had to do that with my EH 10. The problem was that the foam pieces was rather wide, so when centered over the the stock's comb, the foam piece had some "overhang" on either side of the stock. As a result, I raised the comb, but also accidentally added some "cast on." All I needed to do was be sure that there was very little foam hanging over the "cheek" side of the stock - I sent the excess over to the other side, where is didn't matter. It now works fine - it raised the comb by approx. 1/2" without messing up my cheek placement.

Thank you for your help and suggestions, but I visited an English gunsmith, who had experience with stock bending. He measured me up with a tri-gun, and said he thought he could bend the stocks close to those specs.
