Latest restoration project

[Hammer Fan]

Picked up this Williams and Powell 13 gauge double for a song the other day. It will be a beautiful gun after some TLC. The stock needs to be stripped and refinished to clean up the streaks left from running cleaning solvent. There is a splinter of wood missing from the right side of the forearm, that needs to be filled in. The tangs of the buttplate and breech need to be let down a bit, to compensate for the shrinking wood which has lifted them over the years. The barrels are in fine shape. There are some dings in the rib which need to be peened up and blended in, but they ring like a bell and the twist pattern will look great after being refinished. The bores are in surprisingly good condition, which is what convinced me to pick this one up.

I love these old percussion guns, I can easily reach across and cock both hammers at the same time with my right thumb, something I have never been able to get the hang of with my new fangled breechloading hammer guns.

Hope to get her done for next fall. I'll post some pics once she is all done, but unfortunately, like most of us I seem to have more projects than time.
