The reason I asked was I found strange Mr. Hosford tapping out the dent with ballpeen hammer, when I remove dents from barrels I use expanding dent plugs made of bronze and a brass hammer or babbitt. J.J.

To each his own I suppose. Personally I would prefer the use of something softer than my barrel steel, as you do, but he has done a couple for me and I am very pleased with the result. I would imagine on more severe dents he would use a brass hammer.

The face of the ballpeen hammer is polished to a mirror finish. I have one of his tools. He makes it look much easier than it is.
