Default VH with no safety

Had a brief look at a VH 12 ga that had no safety. There was a slight amount of scroll engraving where the safety should have been. The gun had 30" barrels I believe. There was a hole for a mid bead but none was there. The serial # was 150574. Would this have been very common? What does the record book say about this gun--it is in the gun library at the Wheeling Cabelas.

Harold, the serialization book has 150,574 as a VH, 12 ga., no extras, straight grip, 32" bbls.

My apologies Richard, the serial # is 130574. It is a VH12, pistol grip, no safety.
Could you look that up, thanks again

Harold

130574 lists as a 12 ga VH capped pistol grip stock 30" barrel - no extras

Thanks Rick, Wonder why there is no safety? I guess it could have been removed, filled in and then lightly engraved in that area. It does have 30' barrels and the chokes are listed by Cabelas as IC/F. Would it have been a live pigeon gun?

"No Safety" would be a request in the order book. The Serialization Book is a synopsis of Stock Book entries. A PGCA letter will give you the particulars.

i am not a pigeon shooter- but I would expect IC would not be the first choice for the game

Bo Whoop had no safety - that was a dedicated hunting gun

I wonder - and this is purely speculation on my part, if hunters who grew up with hammer guns- that had no tang safety maybe did not like one on their guns?

Actually Rick, that is not a bad combination of chokes for a Columbaire, or hand thrown event. I shoot both box birds and columbaire and my DHE is choked just that way. (.012 and .031)
