Default left of center

I have always heard that the lever of a side by side should be left of center, and as the gun is used it moves toward center. What happens when it gets there? What is the purpose of being left of center ? Someone please enlighten me. Dan Rainey

They should be a bit right of center when fresh and will move left as they wear.

With Parkers, the lever position means little as west of the bolt allows very little movement of the lever and the lever postion on every gun was a little different on every gun when it left the factory.

Other American guns have a lot more movement allowed in the lever as wear happens.

If the lever on these guns are are left of center, that just indicates heavy wear. But if the gun is still tight, still No worries.

The eventual movement of the lever from right of center to left of center is the result of wear of the tapered bolt contacting the tapered bite each time the gun is closed. As long as the two continue to come into a friction contact everything is still good.
