Default The torch is passed

Most of us probably were first exposed to guns and hunting by our Dads or relatives. Thought I'd see how others started out. The first picture is of my Dad and me in 1955 on the Chester River on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I had no sons to pass my limited knowledge to, but I was lucky enough to be able to take my grandson Matt on his first duck shoot last fall. He's shown with my good friend and the marsh manager. The marsh is east of Amherstberg, Canada, near the north shore of Lake Erie.

The gun in each case was a solid rib Remington M31.

Any picture of the torch being passed in your family?

Thanks for the great pictures John.

That's what it's all about - passing the torch and keeping it burning.

With that theme in mind I think you should submit that picture of you and your grandson for the picture of the month. That picture itself is "worth a thousand words."

My father was neither a hunter or gun owner. My grandfather was a trapshooter and a birdhunter and his trap gun was indeed a Parker. He died however befor I was born so it must have been in my blood to become a shooter and hunter.

My parents did the best they could to get me connected to their friends who were shooters/hunters. I remember my first trip to the skeet range with a friend of my fathers. I shot his M12 28ga.

My hats off to Mr. Wid McCready who taught me to shoot and to Mr. Vic Calderone who took me deer hunting many times, and Mr. Denny Brown who let me wander is woods and fields for deer and squirrels. They have all passed on to better hunting grounds but I'm forever gratefull to them.

John perhaps we will meet again this summer in Lewiston for a round of clays.

Richard - Hope we can hook up this summer again. Will be shooting at Lewiston this Sunday at 11 AM for their 100 bird "Ham and Eggs" shoot. Anyone who is in the area should stop in. Not many Parkers, but a bunch of good guys.

The picture of the three generations together is, to say the least, great art. Thanks for the view. David

John,

Great topic and pictures.

Papa took me groundhog hunting on the farm when I was barely out of diapers and to dove hunts as a retriever when I was seven. Here is my grandson at eight retrieveing for me. I just had a 410 stock cut down to his size.
