Default Little Lake Lodge - Annual Meeting donation

At this past years annual meeting one of our members from FL, Bob Hayes generously donated a 2 day snipe hunt with lodging included. I was the lucky winner of the auction. When I scheduled the hunt for mid-January, I mentioned to Bob that we might like to do some hog hunting and my buddy Kevin wanted to kill a gator while we were there.

Bob has a beautiful 3000 acre cattle ranch about 30 miles north of Lake Okeechobee. The snipe are tough little buggers- easily the hardest birds I have hunted. Central Florida has had a very wet "dry season" and the birds were quite scattered which made for a lot of walking and searching! It was great fun. I was hunting with a VH 410, and my buddy Kevin was using a DHE 20ga repro. The hogs were taken the old fashion way - with knives. There will be a full story in the upcoming Parker Pages.

Bob was a great guide and we very much enjoyed his company. I would encourage anyone who wants to experience real FL hunting to check out his operation. His website is:

Killing a hog with a knife is really "plumb western". Congrats on the snipe and on the hogs.

Charlie- the full story will be in the Spring Parker pages. The gator was shot with a .22mag in the head.

By the way- My .410 Parker has great provenance. Jim Julia shot quail with it back in December when we hunted together, he got a double, and said it was one of the best shooting guns he had ever used.

Josh and Kevin were a pleasure to hunt with.Birds did not cooperate but we did find a few.Sometimes wonder if being left wanting more is a bad thing. The guys shot well and hope they will come next year.
We have had a wet winter down here.Normally rain fall is minimal but its not this year.We got more earlier this week(3"plus) and more last night. At least its liquid not frozen.

Bob,
Thank you again for that most generous donation to last years PGCA silent auction. I spoke to Josh about it and he said they had a great time. I look forward to his story in the next issue of Parker Pages.

Dean- great news on two fronts:

1. I have more time to write the article!
2. The spring issue is coming!!

I couldnt imagine a better place to escape the cold winter than to head down to Bob's operation and do some hunting. It really was great fun and such a generous thing to donate for the annual meeting.
