Default 2 3/4" Chambers in a 1 frame 12 ga.

Gentlemen,
I am thinking seriously about buying a 1 frame 12 ga. vh. Selller says the chambers have been opened to 2 3/4". In your experience, is there generally enough barrel thickness at this point in a 1 frame barrel to allow for the gun to remain in decent proof and safe to shoot low pressure loads? Thank You.

Joe;
That's impossible to say without measuring the BWT and visually inspecting the gun because you just don't know if the guy who did the work knew what he was doing.

Thanks, Daryl. Exactly what I thought. I am still very tempted and just may take a chance. I believe there is a 3 day inspection so I'll have to trot it out quick to someone with a gauge........

Joe:
Chances are you'll be fine. British proof minimum for 2 3/4 inch chambers is .140 just ahead of the forcing cone before extending the chamber. And Parkers generally run quite heavy in the barrel wall department. BTW... you need a wall thickness mic/gauge to check things.

Best, Kensal

We know of at least one ten gauge Parker that was made at the factory on a #1 frame and many #1 frame 12 gauges were chambered for 2 3/4" shells. Most #1 frame V Grade guns were late guns that left the factory with 2 3/4" chambers or nearly so. If you like it, buy it.

Joe;
PM me and maybe we can go over the gun as I can measure the BWT for you and give you my opinion if time allows.

If that gun has been anywhere near the Del Grego shop the chambers have been let out. I sent Larry a VHE a couple weeks ago. He did as I asked and in the return mail he said he let out the chambers to 2 3/4 for me. It seems to be routine with them.
