Default Birds and the B's

Was able to carve out a weekday hunt with my son Jake today. He doesn't get the time away as much. So glad to spend the time with him, even though it was downright bitter.

We used a couple B Grade guns, both in 16 gauge. Oz worked the cover efficiently and made all the retrieves. For Garry Gordon, Oz did complain about wanting to be by the fire.......

When it comes to pheasants and bird dogs, nothing beats a lab. Hunting with your boy is always special. Bitter cold-not so much.

I may be sharing too much, but many of my hunts with friends and family have stories which we will remember as long as the birds, dogs, and guns. This hunt was no different and the story will be illuminated in my hunt journal.

The story......
As my son and I were talking (we were sitting in the pickup)with a landowner about property lines, the landowner asked what we do for a living. My son, who is a physician, states such. The landowner, without a pause, says "I think I have a hernia, can you look at it and tell me what I should do"?

As I watched my son graciously get out of the truck and look at this man's umbilical hernia in minus degree wind-chill, it was all I could do to keep a somewhat straight face.

This hunt will be remembered for not only the aspects of the hunt, but of of an odd request which I guess was this farmer's version of a trespass fee....may have to rename this hunt!

Your journal entry should be publishable. Good to see Oz getting some R&R, and that you hunt with a physician

Glad you’re getting out, even in the cold. Be safe.

You gotta do what you gotta do...why it's always a good idea to have exam gloves and hand sanitizer on a hunt.

The photos above are wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
